UKFCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative based in Lexington, Kentucky. Our profits don't flow to stockholders, as they do with a bank, but are returned to our members in the form of better rates and services. Our sole purpose is to serve your financial needs by offering quality products and services while maintaining a financially sound institution.
We remain strong not only by providing the products and services our members want, but by offering financial education that helps you understand and manage your finances. After all, when our members are financially fit, we can develop even more value for you and your community.
As a member-driven financial institution, UKFCU offers significant membership benefits, including low rates when you borrow and high rates when you save. More importantly, as a member, you own your credit union. Your participation by helping to elect or serve on the board of directors gives you a voice in your finances and your future.
In January 1937, a group of agriculture college employees from the University of Kentucky decided they needed a better way to save and borrow money. Together, they formed the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union.
From our earliest days as a group of determined individuals looking for a better way to save and bank, UKFCU has grown to a $1.5 billion organization serving over 102,000 members. We offer a wide assortment of products and services, including checking and savings accounts, mortgage, auto and commercial loans, and investment services. UKFCU has a strong relationship with the University of Kentucky and the communities they serve. While we're bigger and stronger than ever, our mission, vision and values have remained steadfast for over 80 years.

America's Best Credit Unions 2025 by Newsweek
UK Federal Credit Union has been recognized as one of America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions 2025 by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group. Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group recognized top regional banks and credit unions in the United States, by conducting a large-scale study based on the analysis of over 9,000 institutions, more than 70,000 customer surveys and millions of social media reviews. The scoring criteria was based on parameters such as financial relevance, risk exposure to financial uncertainties, general health and stability of each financial institution, and member reviews for mobile banking apps.
2024 Best-in-Class Employer by Gallagher
Gallagher's U.S. Best-in-Class Benchmarking Analysis profiles statistically significant attributes of top-performing midsize (100-999 FTEs) and large employers (1,000 or more FTEs). Data from Gallagher’s 2024 U.S. Benefits Strategy & Benchmarking Survey was interpreted to identify participants that excel in optimizing employee and organizational wellbeing.
Forbs 2024 Best-in-State Credit Union
For each bank and credit union, Statista collected online text reviews and ratings posted between February 2021 and March 2024. This research accounted for 20% of the scoring while the surveys accounted for 80%. The financial institutions with the highest scores landed on our lists
Best of Lexington 2024 by Lexington Herald Leader
Best of Lexington had over 3,200 businesses, organizations, and individuals competing to be named in the top three spots of 229 categories. During voting, more than 286,000 votes were cast, a testament to how customers, fans, and friends feel about their favorite local businesses and the pride they have for Lexington.

I came in when UKFCU was about to close, but they were still very kind and diligent! It was my first time ever opening a bank account so I really appreciated how quickly and smoothly everything went. I even got to learn a little bit about credit! Most of all, I was anxious about creating a bank account because I kept telling myself it means I’m growing up and there’s no going back.
